Pin outs of Eken M009s Wifi Module (Atheros AR9271)

Hi I have an tablet with m009s v16 motherboard which uses one of these Wifi modules which used to work but now I think it has become faulty.

    http://www.pandawill.com/wifi-module...08-p40085.html

I've ordered the replacement unit but is there anyone able to tell me how the layout of usb pins is on this module ? I am asking because the one I have has red and black connected to the middle pins (http://i40.servimg.com/u/f40/17/20/06/09/img00016.jpg).

This maybe because wrong color code of wires but normally the standard USB normally has +5V and ground on the ones on the edge and data in the middle.

Can anyone help or guide me to some schematic please ?

    Thanks

    Hi.
I don't know, whether m009s has usb or another interface (e.g. sdio - also common wifi module connection), but anyway you're right when do not just trust the wires' color.
The cicuit is very good readable, so I think that the best way to get the pinout- is to find the datasheet for the chip.
Btw, why you just would not keep the current wires layout?

would be ideal to get a datasheet for the module but no idea who manufactures these maybe pandawill will be able to guide on his return.

Unfortunately, I didn't save the original ROM with which Wifi used to work before my tablet just died. After I opened and reseat all modules and connectors, everything worked, except Wifi 'unable to scan networks' so I decided to upgrade ROM and tested a number of factory and modified ROMs but all in vain. After more searching I've learned that it seems that there are ROMs which may not like this Wifi chipset. The tablet is not proper Eken branded, the motherboard is m009s v16 green LED, dual touch, no vibrate but it come in a white MID box.

So since the wifi module had failed already when original rom was installed and now I suspect it may have been faulty, I re-ordered module to eliminate this doubt. In the meantime I'm still searching for the proper ROM.

The itention is to leave everything as is, but if I'm still stuck and not finding a suitable ROM, next plan is to remove the the module and solder a standard USB socket and plug in one of the micro external USB wifi modules with RT3070 chipset and leave it inside. So this is the reason I would like to find USB pin sequence of the exisitng module.

    Ok, I see.

Qualcomm has good photo of the reference board for USB dongle on the chip. It is in this document: http://www.qca.qualcomm.com/media/pr...t_77_file1.pdf
I can see, that the board design is defferent, but connected pins are same. I think you can figure out the pinout from this photo (if you can't find the datasheet for AR9271).

    similar problem

    hi,
I have came across a similar problem with the wifi dongle not working properly . I managed to substitute it with my friends one from another Eken M009s and that worked ok but Im looking to buy one did you buy from that website your URL link to with paypal how long did it take to arrive .

The board outer wires Grey looks to be +5V and Green to be 0v based on the following.
With regards to the wiring colours you can verify that the 0V wire grey in you picture appears to be connected to the large area of copper sheilding covered in green paint all over your PCB, appears lighter green than bare PCB .Verify with voltmeter on ohms setting.
As for the +5V Grey wire it appears to go to 4R7 resistor which looks to go to 3 pin voltage regulator near it. So probably 5V input. This could be
verified further with voltmeter I will buy one and try it and let you know.

Hi theobean, I'm glad that you're saying that you resolved the issue by swapping module. That gives me hope that when the module arrives it may resolve my problem.

Yes I ordered it from that link that I attached. I've ordered on the 19th but although I have received the tracking number for Singapore Post, there were no further updates but things are currently on hold due to the Chinese New Year. Hopefully will be back to normal as from coming Monday. So for now fingers crossed and will let you know in case I have an update.

Thanks for the hints about tracing the connectivity by following the tracks, I'll need to do that in case of plan B and I decide to remove the wifi module to replace it with another more common module.

BTW, is your tablet branded as Eken or just the motherboard ? Because in the meantime I am trying to find a suitable ROM for my tablet which supports this the wifi module. Silly me I haven't backed up my original ROM

On finally receiving the new wifi module as per your pandawill link above with AR chipset i also was unable to find a firmware that worked.
So Im also looking for the RT chipset module let me know if you find one. I tested the AR chipset module in windows 7 PC with driver downloaded from Atheros cz (win7-9.2.0.19-whql-full and or win7-2.0.0.49-whql) and it worked fine. Using the direct wiring of a usb connector directly soldered on to the middle four contacts of the board(probably what it was before being sold as ....) . The module worked with or without the outer contacts connected (one on either side) to outer metal 0v of USB so that is would not cause problem when connecting to the Eken tablet.
I conclude that the driver is not incorporated/working in the firmware and so looking for the RT chipset. bye

theobean Realtek wifi module frequently installed in WiFi usb stick from different manufacturers. So you can find right module in the electronics shop. Just plugin WiFi usb stick into tablets usb port. It will works this way if it have compatible chip.

How do you know if Realtek is compatible . The two types of wifi dongles I have seen in the Eken M009 used RT2070 and RT5370 Ralink chipsets. Realtek being RLTxxxxx could be another gamble.
