My review of Eken m013f

The Eken m013f is the the second my tablet from Eken. First one is the m009s. After the previous 7 inches this 10 inches screen looks much bigger. Despite big screen, m013f is lightweight and thin (about 15 mm).

There are total 9 control buttons: Menu, Home, Back, Volume +\-, Power, Reset button (placed at bottom).I found that buttons are grouped on top right side. Because Home and Menu buttons are located close then you must firstly look on what a button you want to press. On m009s my left hand fingers simply placed near menu button, so it is more comfortably.

When I got tablet it was discharged. After first charging it worked slightly unstable. There were shutdowns. So I made long time charging about 10 hours and then made 2 cycles of discharging-charging. After that tablet works perfectly. The worktime is about 3 hours with WiFi and brightness 50%. Without WiFi it is about 4 hours.

The m013f have strange sleep mode like and others based on Infotmic x210. If you leave tablet in sleep mode more than for 1 hour then it will be start loading from begining. That's not good in situations when you need quickly turn on your device.

Tablet have the more responsive screen than m009s. But it is also resistive and not multitouch. The coverage is reflective that good for finger's sliding. Outdoors sometimes image is not visible well (especially when the sunny weather). M013f comes with stylus that is placed in special hole in tablet.

The Android 2.2 installed on Eken m013f. Also Flash 10.1 is supported via preinstalled Dolphin browser. It is easy to navigate via Internet, watch Youtube, etc. Skype is present here too. Microphone placed on top of tablet. M013f equipped with the simple 0.3 mp camera. That can be used for fast shot visit cards, texts, etc. The very usefull Documents To Go applications are preinstalled. And of course you can find here Angry Birds! They are flying very smoothly.

There is GPS option in the Setting menu. Maybe it is for external GPS dongle?

The sound can be played via two small speakers of by 3.5 mm jack for headphones. Speakers are not good. But external speakers or headphones connected via 3.5mm jack sounds pretty good.

Overall impressions are good. M013f is good device for students, businessmans, etc. Also tablet is a good multimedia device for video, audio, web. But if you want to play modern games than the another tablet on Tegra chip will be better case. On m013f most games that is bigger than 20-25 mb could not be launched. M013f can launch some games but not all. Device have enough powerful for most applications. I hope that next firmware update could improve stability and performance.



By my opinion the 10" tablet sometimes better than 10" netbook. Tablet is easily by weight, by access, by settings. Tablet give me real mobility and freedom. Thanks for manufacturers from China and thanks to Pandawill team.
I like:
- big screen
- a lot of connection ports
- low price
- lightweight, thin
- good and very responsive touchscreen
- HDMI for connection to TV

I do not like
- not all the 3d games works well
- not useful sleep mode
- very bad microphone (not for Skype)
- only 256 mb RAM and no App2Sd in default firmware
- speakers are not for music listening
- leather case with USB keyboard have bad thin wire with USB connector

I think it is more easy for Pandawill to recieve photos from EKEN of CPU on m013f motherboard and also battery (to know real capacity).
I am afraid to disassemble my device. It working good anyway.

I found that device has NO microphone. Sound recorded via speakers. Just close microphone hole and try to speak.
Overall sound recording is bad. In Skype you need to speak very close to speakers. It will be good to have a 3.5mm input for external mic instead of bad builtin mic.

What they said is that IMAP x220.
I quite agree with you on the microphone part. It is not convenient skype.

Sorry, but let Eken give the photo of CPU. It is not hard to take a photo of the motherboard.
Eken's support do not know difference between IMAP x200 and Infotmic x200. That is not funny, but )))
IMAP x200 is the Infotmic platform with CPU Infotmic x200.
It is not matter overall.

I found another problem with this device. Battery level.
Tablet shutdowns after 40% of battery level. It turns off without any attention.
Battery calibration do not help. Eken's support said that it is because installed battery capacity is 3600 mAh instead 4800 mAh.
Device think that it have 4800 battery and calculate battery level for 4800 but really it have only 3600 mAh.
I do not know how to resell this device with these stange things!
Can anybody help me?

Next issue. Eken m013f can not connects to Ad-Hoc wifi networks. For example. You have notebook with wifi. If you want to use notebook's WiFi as access point then you must create ad-hoc connection with tablet. I try to do it with Zenithink z180 epad2 and all is ok. But Eken can not find Ad-Hoc network. I think it is software problem.

Overall I understand well that this device is lowcost and it is not Apple iPad. But also I think that these things is not hard to fixing for Chineese manufacturers.
