This has just showed up in PW's inventory, and is not listed as presale.
It has been offered to me as a substitute of the Cubot A6598 in my order, as the Cubot's production was delayed.
I have already chimed in the virtues of the MTK6589 chipset in my Cubot A6589 thread.
This ThL W8 model has pretty much the same specs, down to radio bands and screen resolution, with a few exceptions:
Screen size is 5.0 instead of 5.8 inches. An advantage for some, disadvantage for others. Whatever floats your boat, folks.
Given the smaller size, battery is 2000mAh instead of 3600mAh. I was and still am a bit skeptical about Cubot's humongous battery, that is just a huge number.
A smaller screen has lesser energy requirements, so a bit of the battery difference is offset in that. Other than that, I would like to have it in hand to check the actual battery life.

UPDATE: Received my smartphone!
Galaxy S3 for comparison: https://glbenchmark.com/phonedetails...group=lowlevel

Despite having significantly higher stats in some key specs, there is some problem which gives it a lower fillrate than the GS3. That ends up hurting the FPS, but the numbers are still pretty solid. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a driver-related issue, and a future firmware can bump the graphics speed even higher.
And just to clear up, it is indeed a 12MP camera, and a 5MP front camera. 8MP and 3MP are just the default config, but it can be changed in the settings.

How to install a driver that does not contain digital signature information in Windows 8?
Turn off the check
Hold the shift key while clicking on Restart
Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart
After Restart select option 7.
Once you do this, you will be able to install the unsigned driver on Windows 8.
